2025 EPFL Excellence Fellowship for International Master’s Students in Switzerland

International students can now apply for the 2025 EPFL Excellence Fellowship at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne. Limited master’s level fellowships are available from EPFL to students who have demonstrated academic excellence. This fellowship program is very competitive and merit-based, taking into account the candidates’ academic records.

Some of these fellowships will be directly funded by EPFL, while others will be made available through partnerships with private organizations or foundations.

This opportunity is open to anyone with a bachelor’s degree who wants to enroll in EPFL’s master’s program. Fellowships for excellence are not available to students enrolled in EPFL’s second master’s degree program.

Criteria for the 2025 EPFL Excellence Fellowship

To apply for the EPFL Excellence Fellowship, applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Applicants of any country can apply for a Master’s program at EPFL.
  • Students will be picked according to their academic performance.
  • The applicant’s EPFL degree should not be their second master’s degree.
  • Students who are currently enrolled in a Master’s degree at EPFL are not eligible.
  • External candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree from an international university.
  • Internal candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree from EPFL.
  • Candidates should declare all scholarships they receive while pursuing their master’s degree.

Required Documents For 2025 EPFL Excellence Fellowship 

Applicants should submit the following documents in English, French, German, or Italian. Please include a legalized translation of all documents in another language.

Mandatory Documents:
  1. Resume (CV)
  2. A copy of the university degree or degrees, if any are already accessible.
  3. Statement of Purpose, full transcripts from all universities attended, and the contact information of three academic referees (who will write recommendation letters).
    1. Exceptions: ETH Zürich grads, EPFL Bachelor’s degree holders, and Swiss university/FHS/HES graduates pursuing a Master’s degree in the same subject are exempt.
  4. ID/Passport
Optional Documents:
  • GRE or TOEFL results
  • Publications on research
  • Additional pertinent work samples and portfolios (uploaded exclusively online)
  • Portfolio of Work (for Applicants in Architecture)
  • Twelve months of job experience (if work certifications are available, upload them)
  • Acceptable academic documents must be supplied prior to matriculation.

Required Documents for EPFL Master’s Program students:

Applicants for a master’s degree at EPFL should provide the following documents in English, German, French, or Italian. Documents in other languages should be legally translated in either language:

  1. CV
  2. Motivation letter
  3. Transcript of all grades earned at EPFL
  4. Referees must submit two recommendation letters from professors who are familiar with the student’s work and achievements directly to master.fellowship@epfl.ch.

Note: No papers delivered by postal mail will be taken into consideration by EPFL; only those uploaded to the online application form will be taken into account.
