NASA OSDR Summer Internship Program Overview
The goal of the NASA OSDR summer internship program is to give participants a thorough introduction to space life sciences. Working on initiatives like GeneLab, ALSDA, and NBISC, which are housed under the OSDR, is an opportunity for interns. Interns can expand their expertise and help space biology evolve by working on these projects. With an emphasis on networking, mentoring, and skill development, the program gives interns practical exposure with state-of-the-art tools and techniques.
Why Join OSDR?
- Creative Projects: Address practical issues at the nexus of technology, open data, and space research.
- Develop your skills by getting practical experience with state-of-the-art instruments and techniques.
- Mentoring: Work with professionals in visualization, bioinformatics, and open science.
- Networking: Assemble a group of professionals, educators, and researchers who share your interests and are committed to furthering science.
Available Internship Positions
1. Sample Processing Lab Intern:
2. Curation Team Intern:
3. Data Processing Team Intern:
To create a bioinformatics pipeline for evaluating hyperspectral imaging data from space biology research, the Data Processing Team is looking for an intern. Under the supervision of a mentor, the intern will assess open-source technologies such as pyHAT, create data processing workflows and visualizations, and advance knowledge of how plants adapt to harsh conditions, such as space.
4. Intern for Science and Curation Teams:
To organize and ingest cardiovascular datasets from the SOLSTICE citizen science project into the OSDR database, the Science and Curation Teams are looking for an intern. The intern will create standards for assay metadata, select data for meta-analysis and comparison, and submit it via the data portal.
